New Delhi: The T20 World Cup 2024 has entered the decisive stage after the culmination of the group games in USA. Out of the total 20 teams, the top 8 sides are battling it out in the Super Eight stage, which will eventually take the top 4 among the 8 into the semifinals. With the big bulls dominating the showpiece event, a team like Afghanistan isn’t behind.
With three wins in their four group matches, Afghanistan made their way into the super 8 stage of the marquee event but the first battle against undefeated India didn’t turn their way as they went down to the Men in Blue. While they still have the chance to qualify for the semis, with their next clash scheduled for Sunday against the mighty Australians, an interesting story about the Afghans has surfaced.
Afghanistan players turn chefs
The players from the team have turned into part-time chefs due to the lack of halal meat being available in the West Indies. A must for the Afghan players, its unavailability has forced them to cook meals at their hotel restaurant. Halal meat is usually available in the West Indies but its uncertain whether hotels and restaurants have it in their menu or not.
Due to a lack of halal meat, which is sacred to Islamic beliefs, the Afghanistan cricket players all turned into chefs. The players to get their food would sometimes cook the food on their own or would go out to other hotels and restaurants to eat.
“Halal meat is not available in our hotel. Sometimes we cook on our own or sometimes we go out. In the last World Cup in India, everything was perfect. Halal beef is an issue here. We had it in St. Lucia but it is not there at all venues. A friend arranged it for us and we cooked on our own,” a player told news agency PTI.
Afghanistan lost their first super eight clash against India and now face Australia in their second match of the T20 World Cup super 8 on Sunday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
