The Secret Service is set to implement new security measures, including the use of ballistic glass, to protect former President Donald Trump as he resumes outdoor campaign events. This decision comes in the wake of a failed assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
According to two sources familiar with the planning, cited in a NBC News report, the protective ballistic glass will be strategically positioned around the country and transported by Secret Service agents responsible for its security. This type of bulletproof glass is typically available to sitting presidents and vice presidents and is usually transported using military aircraft. However, Trump, as a former president and current candidate, does not have access to such military support.

While not every outdoor event will require the use of ballistic glass, the Secret Service will deploy it when specific sites present heightened security concerns. “It is one of several security measures previously used only for officeholders but that are now being added to Trump’s protection after a failed assassination attempt,” said one of the officials.
In addition to the ballistic glass, the Secret Service is ramping up other security protocols, including increasing staffing and utilizing advanced technology to counter threats. These enhancements include the deployment of counter-snipers and counter-surveillance teams to provide added protection at outdoor rallies.
Trump hasn’t held an outdoor rally since surviving the assassination attempt
The assassination attempt in July, which left Trump and two rallygoers wounded and claimed the life of another individual, led to intense scrutiny of the Secret Service. The incident also resulted in the resignation of former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who had vowed to strengthen the protective details for all presidential candidates.
Since the shooting, Trump has not held any outdoor campaign events, but with the new security measures in place, he is expected to resume his rallies soon.
