Hyderabad: A man from Andhra Pradesh, who was stuck in the desert of Saudi Arabia returned home on Friday after the intervention of IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
The man, Sarella Veerendra Kumar, was welcomed by his family at Shamshabad International Airport in Hyderabad.
Kumar thanked Lokesh and TDP NRI forum for safely bringing him back to India. “Lokesh garu reacted quickly and sent help to rescue me. NRI TDP team, including Dr Vemuri, Khalid Saifullah, Radha Krishna garu rescued me. So I would to express my gratitude,” he said in a video.
In a post on social media platform Twitter, Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said, “Few days back, plight of an Indian National, Mr Veerendra Kumar was brought to the attention of the Embassy. We are happy to announce that he has safely returned to India now. We wish to thank all the community volunteers who worked with the Embassy to ensure his safe return.”
Veerendra Kumar, who hails from Isukapudi village of Ambajipet mandal in Ambedkar Konaseema district, put out a video on social media pleading help from Indian government authorities as he was stuck in an arid desert in Saudi Arabia as a camel herder without being provided with any essentials.
In the video, he further stated that he was cheated by an agent who promised him a job in Qatar but after landing in Qatar on July 10, he was taken to Saudi Arabia.
