Andhra Pradesh to get three small airports in three districts

BJP leader and MP from Andhra Pradesh, Daggubati Purandeswari said that three new airports are being planned in the state and the airports will be built in Kuppam in Chittoor district, Dagadarthi in Potti Sriramulu district, Moolpet in Srikakulam district.

This is in addition to Bhogapuram International greenfield airport. The BJP leader said that this development not only enhances connectivity, but also propels economic progress. The work at Bhogapuram also gathered pace after NDA came to power, she said.

Last week, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu discussed his vision of building small airports with Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials.

As per AAI officials, the ideal situation for small airports would be 1,000 acres of land, to accommodate A320 aircrafts.

Kuppam has 600 acres of land available and the state government is willing to acquire 200 or 300 more acres if required. Donakonda Airstrip in Prakasam district, which was constructed during WW-2, is also being considered for redevelopment.

Interestingly, TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu is the Union Minister of Aviation, which could be beneficial for airport infrastructure in the state.
