New Delhi: When you are the most successful male tennis player in the history of the game, you can afford to pass a Grand Slam or two. But not if you are Novak Djokovic. The man, who always turns up for the big stages, made a roaring comeback days after undergoing knee surgery as he made a thumping start to his campaign at Wimbledon 2024 with an easy win over Czech Vit Kopriva in the first round.
Djokovic, the epitome of hard work and dedication, continues to prove why he is a champion both on and off the field. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is just one major away from becoming the only player in tennis history with 25 Grand Slams but his hunger has only intensified.
Djokovic looked well on course for his 25th at the French Open earlier this year but he had to pull out ahead of the quarterfinals after tearing a medial meniscus tear. Many thought, he might not take part in Wimbledon for his good and focus on his recovery. But Djokovic shut down all concerns regarding his fitness with a fine display in his first-round clash against Kopriva.
His preparations were severely hampered by the knee surgery that he underwent on June 5th this year, but less than a month after being operated on, Djokovic cruised to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win in straight sets against the Czech qualifier. There were no signs of discomfort in what seemed a routine victory for the Serbian ace in a match that lasted 1 hour and 58 minutes.
As he began his quest for the elusive 25th Grand Slam at Wimbledon, Djokovic admitted he was happy with the way he glided on the court and expressed his delight over making a dominant return. Despite being 37 and having suffered an injury as recently as last month, Djokovic looked supremely fit and top of his game, showcasing the stuff of champions.

19-0 – Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon streak continues
If his return to the grass court after undergoing knee surgery less than a month ago was not enough to leave fans in awe of his prowess, Djokovic continued his winning streak in the first-round matches at Wimbledon. The seven-time Wimbledon champion picked up his 19th straight victory in his first-round matches on the grass court.
Djokovic, who made his Wimbledon debut in 2005, has never lost a first-round match in the 19 years that he has participated in the competition now. He reached the third round on his debut in 2005 but has since claimed seven titles at Wimbledon.
With the 22-time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal out injured, Djokovic will be looking to continue his ruthless run at the All England Club and script history with a record 25th Grand Slam crown.
Days after he underwent a knee surgery after pulling out of the French Open quaterfinal, Novak Djokovic returned to business as usual as he brushed aside Vit Kopriva in his first-round clash at Wimbledon 2024 on Tuesday.  Tennis Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
