BBL 14: Max Bryant’s 72 off 35 helps Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Thunder in a thriller

New Delhi: Max Bryant’s fiery half-century helped Brisbane Heat register a memorable win in Big Bash history as they defeated Sydney Thunder by five wickets at the Gabba on January 6, Monday. Heat required 121 runs in the last 10 overs and chased the target with 1.1 overs to spare in the match.

The hosts won the toss and elected to field first, and Thunder’s skipper David Warner set the tone from the start of the innings. Thunder scored 56 runs in the first six overs, but after that, they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Thunder’s assistant coach Daniel Christian was named in the playing XI after the tragic incident happened with Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft in their last match against Perth Scorchers. Christian gave the finishing touches to the Thunders’ innings and helped them to a score of 173 runs on a tricky pitch.

Spencer Johnson was the star with the ball as he took three important wickets and Matthew Kuhnemann and Michael Neser also picked up two wickets in the match.

In response, the Heat openers couldn’t give a powerful start as Jack Wood was dismissed in the first over, and skipper Colin Munro was playing with a below-100 strike rate and got out on 23 runs in 25 balls. Heat required 121 runs in the last 60 balls and they the power surge after the drinks break.

Max Bryant powers Brisbane Heat to victory

Bryant and Matt Renshaw scored 32 runs in the two-over power surge and took their team on the right track. Bryant took responsibility after the power surge and started the counter-attack game against the Thunder bowlers. Bryant scored his half-century in just 26 balls and almost finished the game in the 16th over by smashing 22 runs against Chris Green.

Renshaw also played a responsible knock and finished the innings with an unbeaten 48 runs in 33 balls. With this win, the Heat moved to fourth place in the points table with seven points in seven matches.
