New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will come into action as head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma are expectedly to be grilled post a dismal run in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India suffered a big batting collapse in the last Test match held at the MCG, as from a comfortable position where they could have easily secured a draw, the batters faltered leading to the team’s loss.
A report on Cricbuzz states that after the twin defeats at the Adelaide Oval and Melbourne, the Indian cricket board will put some tough questions in front of coach Gambhir and skipper Rohit after the series culminates at Sydney. The fifth and final Test match of the series will begin from January 03-07 and with the series poised at 2-1 in favour of the Aussies, India will be aiming for a victory to save some pride.
Rohit to be questioned for Gill’s axing?
The report further states that skipper Rohit is expected to be questioned for axing Shubman Gill in the last Test match at MCG. Gill was asked to sit on the bench as Rohit took his place as the opener in the last match but failed. Another thing which is worth noticing here is that despite having much better numbers than Rohit in the last 15 Test innings, Gill was not included in the playing XI.
Under Gambhir’s tenure as the coach, Team India have faced many shocking results in the past six months. Be it the ODI series loss against Sri Lanka or the home Test series loss against New Zealand, best is yet to come out of the players under the new coach.
While Gambhir may not be grilled as much as Rohit because it’s believed that he had nothing to do with the playing XI selection in the last game but the skipper might face some tough questions and a decision on the road ahead is also expected to be taken behind the closed doors meet.
