Buchi Babu Tournament: Suryakumar Yadav sustains hand injury ahead of Duleep Trophy 2024 – Report

New Delhi: Batting ace Suryakumar Yadav, who looked set to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024 and showed excitement for the upcoming India series that followed, has received a major blow to his hopes before even the start of these series. He currently participates in the Buchi Babu Tournament and is playing for his domestic side Mumbai. With this, he wanted his Duleep Trophy stint to act as a tune-up to the upcoming Test series for which he is eyeing a comeback in the Indian cricket team.

But… a recent report by ESPNcricinfo reveals that Suryakumar suffered an injury to his hand while fielding in the Buchi Babu Tournament for Mumbai against the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in Coimbatore on Friday. The incident notably occurred just 38 balls into the tournament. The report also highlighted that whether Suryakumar’s participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy will be affected by this injury is still unclear.

The injury blow comes just days ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh that begins on September 19. The two-match Test series will conclude on October 1. The flamboyant batter was recently appointed as the skipper of the T20I Indian side and the injury also raises questions about his participation in the next T20I series for India (three-match series vs Bangladesh).

Excited for red-ball fun – Surya

A few days back, Suryakumar interacted with ESPNcricinfo before the tournament began and showed interest in returning for India in the Test team. He said that he is looking forward to performing well in the Buchi Babu tournament and will also feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024, where he is a part of India C, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. For the Indian cricket team, 10 Test matches are lined up including the Bangladesh home series, the home series against New Zealand, and the five-match Border-Gavaskar series in Australia.

“What is in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament, go on to play the Duleep Trophy, and then see what happens. But yes, I’m really looking forward. There are ten Test matches lined up and I’m obviously excited for some red-ball fun,” Suryakumar said.

As per a report, Suryakumar Yadav injured one of his hands while fielding during the Mumbai vs Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI Buchi Babu clash in Coimbatore on Friday.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
