New Delhi: Three Indians – Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Yashasvi Jaiswal – have made the cut in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024. The ICC Team of the Year includes 11 outstanding players who produced sensational performances in Test cricket throughout 2024.
Pat Cummins, who led Australia to their first win against India in a Test series in a decade, has been named the captain of the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024. The team features four English, three Indians, two Kiwis, one Sri Lankan and one Australian player.
The inclusion of Bumrah, Jadeja and Jaiswal is a testament to their contribution to the Indian Test team in 2024.
India’s magical trio
It was a standout year for Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored a whopping 1,478 runs at a stunning average of 54.74, an aggregate second only to England’s Joe Root’s tally of 1556 runs.
He finished as the highest run-scorer in the home series against England, amassing a staggering 712 runs, including two double centuries and three fifties and continued his superb scoring run with three half-centuries in four innings as India thrashed Bangladesh at home.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jaiswal scored a magnificent 161 in the second innings at Perth and finished as India’s top scorer in the series, accumulating 391 runs.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja enjoyed a sensational year with both bat and ball and scored runs and picked up wickets for fun in 2024. The left-arm spinner and batter scored 527 runs in 2024 at an average of 29.27 and snared 48 wickets at an impressive average of 24.29.
Jasprit Bumrah cemented his status as a modern-day great with some magical performances throughout the year. He began 2024 with a stellar performance against England, taking 19 wickets in four matches, including a magical nine-wicket haul in Vishakhapatnam and extended his tally with 11 wickets in just two games against Bangladesh at home.
During the Australia tour, Bumrah emerged as the lone warrior for India with an extraordinary haul of 32 wickets and became the first bowler to average under 20 with a minimum of 200 wickets in Test cricket.
Overall, Bumrah picked up 71 wickets in 2024 at an unbelievable average of 14.92 and ended the year as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket for the year.
