Bundesliga: Niclas Fullkrug leaves Borussia Dortmund to join West Ham

New Delhi: Niclas Fullkrug is on the verge of making his move to the Premier League after West Ham agreed to a fee of £27m to sign the German striker. Fulkurg joined Borussia Dortmund last year after moving from Werder Bremen and scored 15 times from his 46 appearances across all competitions and finished as runners-up in the Champions League. Fulkurg also recorded two goals for Germany during Euros 2024 in the host nations’ run to the quarter-final, though he didn’t start any games.

It is being reported that the final details are left as the 31-year-old striker has already headed to London to make his move to West Ham. The German club announced Fullkrug’s departure from their training camp in Switzerland but refrained from naming the club he is headed to. Borussia will most likely now enter the market looking for another striker, with both Sebastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko free to leave the club.

Fulkrug’s exit from Borussia is slightly shocking, given that he was the club’s primary striker in the previous season. He was an important player for their appearance in the UEFA Champions League final. However, Serhou Guirassy, coming from VFB Stuttgart to Dortmund, changed the dynamics of Fulkrug’s stay in the club. Dortmund had wanted to have two strikers in their club, but with the potential Fullkrug has displayed, it is unjust to ask him to play second fiddle to Guirassy. This has led to the former Bremen striker’s move to the Premier League and play for the first time outside the top-tier football league of Germany.

According to reports, Fullkrug had reached out to Germany’s coaching team, including Sandri Wagner, Julian Nagelsmann, and Benjamin Gluck. The advice he received was to make the move to the London club as he would be featuring regularly in the starting XI. With the World Cup in two years, the German team management would want one of their most experienced campaigners to have as many regular minutes as possible in preparation for World Cup 2026.

Despite Dortmund’s reluctance, they have to part ways with Fullkrug, and it will be interesting to see how they react to the departure of Fullkrug and their two other strikers looking to make a move. With the arrival of Yan Couto, Dortmund has strengthened its defence, of course. As for West Ham, they are showing their intent to add more offensive threats to their squad. They had tried signing the Fullkrug a year ago and now finally can add his experience to their pool of talent for an initial contract of three years.

The German striker has already left for London and is in the final stages of completing his move to the English football league.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
