New Delhi: Carlo Ancelotti’s reign at Real Madrid is likely to come to an end soon as he is reportedly ‘close’ to becoming the next manager of Brazil. The Italian manager is reportedly in talks with the representatives of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) to take over as the new coach of the Selecao ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June this year.

Real Madrid have struggled under Ancelotti this season and are on the verge of going trophyless after losing 3-2 to arch-rivals Barcelona in a thrilling Copa del Rey final on Sunday. Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League 2024-25 by Arsenal last week and are currently four points behind Barcelona on the La Liga table.

However, the Brazilian football federation is keen on appointing Ancelotti as their new manager as they aim for a strong showing in the FIFA World Cup 2026 next year. As per Sky Sports, Ancelotti, who has held talks with the representatives of the CBF, is ‘very close’ to taking over as the new manager of Brazil. Sources have claimed that Ancelotti could leave Real Madrid as soon as next week as talks with Brazil continue.

Ancelotti is Brazil’s no.1 choice to replace former manager Dorival Junior, who was sacked following the team’s 4-1 defeat to Argentina last month. Brazil are currently in the 4th place on the South American World Cup qualification points table. While they are likely to secure a place in the World Cup comfortably, the CBF believes appointing Ancelotti as the new manager might help them end their long-standing title drought next year.
