Chennai: The officials from the Food Safety Department shut down a medical shop for selling breast milk illegally in Madhavaram in Chennai. The authorities took action after reports surfaced. It’s said that a 50 ml bottle of breast milk was being sold for Rs. 500.
It is learned that more than 50 bottles seized from the shop have now been sent to the government laboratory for testing by the officials of the Food Safety Department.
According to sources, a pharmaceutical wholesale and retail center operates in the Madhavaram area under the name “Life Vaccine Store” owned by Muthiah. The Food Safety Department received a complaint that the drug store was selling banned breast milk. Following this, Food Safety Department officials inspected the concerned Life Vaccine Store. During the raid, it was found that more than 50 plastic bottles of breast milk were packed and kept for sale.
The owner of the shop has been arrested.
