Chennai: Teenager held for dancing with sword while celebrating his birthday

Chennai:  A teenager was arrested for celebrating his birthday by wielding a sword and cutting a cake on the road in the Vyasarpadi area in the city. The issue came to light after a friend uploaded the video clip on social media. Police said the arrested individual was identified as Manimaran alias Appu, 30, a resident of Vyasarpadi.

Appu celebrated his birthday with his friends in the middle of the road. One of his friends handed over a sword to him. Appu, wielding the sword, danced on the road fiercely to the music, while one of his friends filmed and posted the ‘reels’ video on social media. After the video was brought to the police’s attention, the team from the Vyasarpadi station apprehended him, based on The Arms Act, of 1959. He was remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, after a Tasmac salesperson, demanded Rs 10 extra for a liquor bottle, a customer snatched the PoS (Point of Sale) swiping device from the Tasmac unit and fled to Otteri near Perambur. The police have launched a search for the man. The police said the incident occurred on Tuesday at a Tasmac outlet on Strahans Road. A customer who came to the shop had asked for a bottle of liquor, and when the salespersons demanded Rs 10 extra from the customer, he argued with them.
