Cheteshwar Pujara slams Team India bowlers for not exploiting Travis Head’s weakness

New Delhi: Seasoned Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara has slammed the Indian bowlers for failing to exploit Travis Head’s weakness on the second day of the second Test match at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday. Head devastated the Indian bowlers as he slammed a sensational century (140) to help Australia gain a 157 runs lead in the first innings.

The veteran Indian batter said that the bowling attack did not even attempt to bowl short-pitched deliveries to Head, that make him uncomfortable and instead, gave him too much room on the offside which he exploited to the fullest. By virtue of his lethal innings of 141 balls, Australia were in a driver’s seat when stumps were called at the iconic stadium.

India should have exploited his weakness

‘Travis Head’s weakness is short-pitched deliveries, which is well known to the opposition,’ Pujara said on Star Sports in his second day’s analysis.  “But we only saw two-three short-pitched deliveries to him. They could have been used more effectively. He dominates the offside, so we could have curbed his offside stroke-making and instead of a 6-3 (offside-onside) a 5-4 field placement would have been a good ploy against Head,’ said Pujara.

The experienced Indian batter also pointed out the immaturity and inexperience of the batters in the Indian line up against the pink ball, saying that they played too late which lead to a flurry of dismissals.

After taking a dominant 157-run first-innings lead, Australia reduced India to 128/5 in their second innings on the second day at Adelaide, with Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Nitish Reddy at the crease as India trailed by 29 runs. On the third day, responsibility lies on the shoulders of both these players to take India ahead in the game while for Australia, it will be about wrapping up the match soon by claiming the remaining five wickets.
