New Delhi: Chris Jordan became the first England bowler to bag a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup during his side’s clash against USA in the Super Eight on Sunday, June 23. Life came full circle for Barbados-born Jordan, who completed his maiden hat-trick in T20Is at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Jordan also became the first English bowler to take a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game.
Jordan bowled a stunning 20th over during USA’s innings after the co-hosts lost the toss and were asked to bat first in Barbados. The England pacer picked up four wickets in the over, including his first hat-trick in a T20I match to enter record books. He started by dismissing a set Corey Anderson on 28 off 29 balls on the first ball of the over.
He then bowled a dot ball to USA tail-ender Ali Khan before cleaning him up with a sensational delivery on the third ball of the over. Khan became Jordan’s first victim in his famous hat-trick after being outdone by inswinger. The England pacer then produced a 141.3kph ripper to trap Nosthush Kenjige lbw.
Khan was dismissed on a duck followed by Kenjige, who was also sent packing on a duck by Jordan. Jordan was up against the talented Saurabh Netravalkar on his hat-trick ball and he managed to clean him up with another brilliant delivery. It was a 141kph delivery from Jordan and Netravalkar show his stumps get rattled after a failed drive.
Jordan became the 1st England bowler and the 8th overall after the likes of Bret Lee, Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.
