New Delhi: Amid his ongoing recovery after treatment, former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was seen in high spirits as he shook a leg at the hospital where he has been admitted. In a video that has gone viral on the internet, Kambli can be seen dancing with a couple of people at the hospital, indicating that his health is improving.
Kambli was recently admitted to Akruti Hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi town in Maharashtra after complaining of muscle cramps due to a urinary infection. Further medical assessments by the doctors at the hospital revealed the former India batter was also suffering from brain clotting, leaving his fans and close ones concerned.
However, according to doctors treating him at the hospital, Kambli’s health is improving, and the cricketer, who was critical when admitted, is now out of danger. In the video that has created a buzz on social media, Kambli can be seen dancing to a popular Bollywood song with some of his fans at the hospital. His performance also lifted the spirits of the medical staff at the hospital. The video was shared by a local media portal.

Earlier, Kambli had thanked the doctors and the other staff members treating him at the hospital for saving his life. “It is because the doctor here that I am alive… All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to,” Kambli had said during his treatment. He was provided free treatment at the hospital by the hospital’s director Shailesh Thakur, a former cricketer and Kambli fan.
Kambli also received financial aid of Rs 5 lakh from MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde last week. Shinde visited the former cricketer at the hospital and provided him with a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.
Vinod Kambli facing memory loss: Doctors
The doctors treating Kambli also revealed that he is facing memory loss due to some neurodegenerative changes. As per the doctors, the memory loss is due to Kambli avoiding the consumption of alcohol for the last 3-4 months after being ethanolic for a long time. His memory loss will get better with time but will never be 100%.
“Yes, there is a little bit of impairment of memory function also. Definitely, there is some impairment. Neurodegenerative changes are there. So again, with the help of time and good rehabilitation, he will probably start functioning normally again. But not like 100 per cent, but definitely he will achieve 80-90 per cent of the previous memory,” said Dr. Dwivedi, who is overlooking the former cricketer’s treatment.
Kambli, who was known for his swashbuckling style of batting, played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India in his international career. He was regarded as one of the most talented batters in the country during his time but due to on-field and off-field controversies he never managed to fulfil his potential at the highest level.
