Cocaine worth Rs 22 crore seized at Chennai airport from woman passenger from Kenya

Chennai: The customs officials have seized Rs 22 crore worth 2.2 kg of cocaine that was smuggled from Nigeria via Doha to Chennai by air on Thursday, June 27. According to sources, Chennai Airport Customs officials received confidential information that large quantities of narcotics from African countries were being smuggled to Chennai Anna International Airport. After this, the airport customs officials formed a special force engaged in intensive surveillance. Then an IndiGo Airlines flight arrived from Doha, the capital of Qatar. The customs officials monitored the passengers and stopped and searched the suspicious passengers.

On that flight, a 30-year-old Kenyan woman came to Chennai on a tourist visa from Nigeria via Doha. The customs officials were suspicious of her. Subsequently, the female passenger was stopped and questioned. She contradicted herself back and forth. She was then taken to a separate room and examined by female customs officials. The shoes worn by the Kenyan girl back then were slightly different. They checked the young woman’s shoes. They found a secret compartment in the soles of the shoes where the drugs were hidden.

Apart from that 5 more pairs of shoes were in her bag and drugs were also hidden in those shoes. Customs officials seized all the drugs in the shoes and sent them to the testing lab to analyze what kind of drugs they were.
The information from there indicated that it was cocaine. Also, the total drug seized from the young Kenyan woman is 2.2 kg of cocaine with an international value of Rs 22 crore.

Following this, the customs officials arrested the Kenyan woman and are investigating.
