New Delhi: The Argentina national football team took a dig at Canadian music artist Drake following their win over Canada in the first semi-final of Copa America 2024 on Wednesday.
Ahead of the semi-final, Drake posted an image on his official Instagram account, which showed he placed a bet on Canada that would have eventually given him a $2.88 million payout had Argentina lost.
However, Drake couldn’t reap the desired rewards after Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi netted one goal apiece to cruise Argentina to a 2-0 win. Following the match, the official Instagram handle of the Argentina men’s football team (@afaseleccion) didn’t miss the opportunity to troll the Canadian rapper.
The official Instagram handle posted a picture of the Argentina team in a huddle and the caption read: ‘A team that breaks any bet (As translated in English)’. Interestingly, the social media team of Argentina football also used American rapper Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ music, which is a diss track against Drake in May this year.
How Argentina qualified for Copa America 2024 final?
Argentina, the defending champions of Copa America, started their campaign with a 2-0 win against Canada. Julian Alvarez (49′) and Lautaro Martinez (88′) were on the scoresheet. Martinez once again scored in the dying minutes to help Argentina beat Chile 1-0 in their second game.
The Inter Milan forward scored a brace against Peru as Argentina topped the charts of Group A. Argentina eked out Ecuador on penalties (4-2) after the two teams were locked on the scoresheet 1-1. It was goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Argentina’s world cup hero, who once again starred with the glove. He saved the shots of Angel Mena and Alan Minda to give Argentina a 2-0 edge in the shootouts.
Argentina will play the winner of the second semi-final between Uruguay and Colombia on Sunday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
