New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) needed a moment of brilliance from Dewald Brevis on the field to break the opening stand between Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell in their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, May 03. Brevis pulled off a stunning catch to get rid of Bethell, who was looking in dangerous touch.
After being asked to bat first, Kohli and Bethell combined to get RCB off to a flying start, going after the CSK bowlers from the word go. Bethell made his intentions clear with a hat-trick of fours against Khaleel Ahmed in the first over before Kohli slammed back-to-back sixes against the left-arm pacer in his next over.
The RCB openers dominated the proceedings in the Powerplay to help their team post 71 runs on the board in the first six overs. Bethell then went on to complete his fifty off 30 balls. He reached the milestone with a boundary against Ravindra Jadeja in the 9th over before getting dismissed in the next over.
On the penultimate delivery of the 10th over, Bethell went after a short of length delivery from CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana, but ended up getting a top edge after failing to time it properly. The ball went up in the air and seemed to be landing in a no-man’s zone. However, Brevis charged in and pulled off a brilliant diving catch to send Bethell packing on 55 off 33 balls.
