New Delhi: South Africa batter Dewald Brevis continued his impressive run for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday with a 19-ball fifty against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Brevis smashed the joint-second-fastest fifty by a CSK batter in IPL history to power the five-time champions to a big total of 230/5 in 20 overs.
Brevis, who joined CSK midway through the season as an injury replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh, has been one of the best batters for the franchise in the ongoing IPL 2025. The Proteas dasher has played some fabulous knocks for the team ever since making his debut earlier this season. Brevis produced another enthralling knock against GT on Sunday.
Brevis notched up his fifty off just 19 balls and finished with a quickfire 57 off 23 balls, laced with five sixes and 4 fours. Brevis’ blistering knock, along with opener Devon Conway’s 35-ball 52 and Urvil Patel’s 19-ball 37, helped CSK post 237 runs on the board. Brevis shared a brilliant stand of 74 runs for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (21) to help CSK comfortably cross the 200-run mark.
Brevis’ 19-ball fifty was the second-fastest by a CSK batter in IPL history. Brevis joined the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Moeen Ali in the elite list of batters with the fastest fifties for CSK in the IPL. Suresh Raina, who smashed a 16-ball fifty against Punjab Kings in IPL 2014, holds the record for the fastest half-century by a CSK batter in the tournament.
