Didn’t watch a single ball of the India-Sri Lanka series, was watching Olympics: Ex-India spinner

New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team spinner Harbhajan Singh admitted he didn’t watch India’s recently concluded white-ball series against Sri Lanka as the Paris Olympics 2024 was on. India suffered a crushing 2-0 defeat in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after winning the T20I rubber 3-0. It was a disappointing start to Gautam Gambhir’s reign as India head coach with the whitewash in ODIs.

Sri Lanka scripted history as they registered their first ODI series win against India for the first time in 27 years. Sri Lanka last won an ODI series against the Men in Blue in 1996 but managed to get the better of the Men in Blue at home this time around to bring an end to the drought. After the first ODI ended in a tie, Sri Lanka beat India by 32 runs in the 2nd ODI and 110 runs in the 3rd ODI to seal the series.

When asked to share his views on the reason behind India’s shocking defeat in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Harbhajan revealed he didn’t watch even a single ball of action between the two teams. He said he was tuned into the Paris Olympics as nothing comes close when the quadrennial sporting extravaganza is on.

“To be honest, I have not seen a single ball of cricket during the India versus Sri Lanka series because I was watching only the Olympics. When the Olympics are on, you don’t take your eyes off it,” Harbhajan told PTI.

“It was one of those things. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose it. It’s sports after all. All cricketers go through these periods. You play well but you still don’t win,” added the former India spinner.

India win six medals at Paris Olympics 2024

India sent a 117-strong contingent for the Paris Olympics 2024, however, the Indian athletes could only manage to win six medals at the Games. Shooting was the most prolific sport for India at the Paris Games with shooters claiming three bronze medals. Manu Bhaker won India’s first medal at the Paris Olympics, a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event before bagging another bronze medal with her partner Sarabjot Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Swapnil Kusale added a third bronze medal to India’s tally in shooting. Neeraj Chopra failed to defend his men’s javelin title but won India’s only silver medal at the showpiece event. Neeraj’s season-best throw of 89.45m was not enough to pip Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with a stunning throw of 92.97m.

Indian men’s hockey team claimed a second successive bronze medal in Paris while wrestler Aman Sehrawat too bagged a bronze medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle category to help India finish with a total of six medals.

A former India spinner revealed he didn’t watch a single ball of the recently concluded series between India and Sri Lanka as he was busy watching the Paris Olympics 2024 which concluded on August 11.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
