New Delhi: Magomed Ankalaev finally dethroned Alex Pereira and became the new UFC Light Heavyweight champion at the T-Mobil arena on March 9, Sunday. Pereira was clearing all the contenders at the division and defeated the top 3 fighters in just six months.
Before the fight, there was speculation that Ankalaev would be the most intriguing stylistic matchup for Pereira. Pereira started the fight tentatively and was attacking with his low kicks, but Ankalaev shot the first takedown and was successful in that.
Ankalaev was getting the success with his striking also and dominated Pereira in the first two rounds of the fight. After winning the first two rounds, the challenger slowed down the fight.
In the fourth round, Ankalaev was covering his glory and gave three boring minutes in which referee split both fighters and started the fight again.
The champion made a huge comeback in the last round and hit a big head kick and increased the pace of the fight also. The fight went to the distance, and all the judges gave the score card in favor of the Challenger.
The judges gave a score of 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 at the end of the fight. The UFC 313 event was delayed by an hour after two fights were called off on the fight day.
In the co-main event, Justin Gaethje made a great comeback after being knocked out in his last fight. Gaethje defeated Rafael Fiziev in a three-round bout. The bout was more on striking and displayed a great fight in front of fans.
This was also the rematch between both fighters, and Gaethje won both fights dominatingly.
