New Delhi: Austria will face France at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf for the 17th edition of UEFA Euro, Europe’s premier international football competition. While Austria has never advanced beyond the round of 16, Les Bleus have claimed the championship twice. Despite needing to improve from their last appearance, the French team enters the competition as one of the favorites.
Austria has placed great hope in former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, aiming to surpass their 2020 Euro result of reaching the round of 16. Under Rangnick’s guidance, Austria has emerged as one of the most in-form teams on the continent, winning six of their eight qualifying matches, with one draw and one loss. Rangnick led the team on a remarkable run of six consecutive wins before a 1-1 draw against Switzerland.
With an all-star lineup, France will enter the competition. The winners of the 2018 World Cup are once again the favourites for UEFA Euro 2024 because they have a reputation as the team to beat. But their performance at the 2020 Euro was dismal; they were eliminated after losing to Switzerland on penalties in the round of 16. The two-time European champions haven’t won the championship in more than 20 years. The last time France won a Euro title was in 2020, under the leadership of Didier Deschamps, their current manager. After leading the team to victory in the 2018 World Cup, Deschamps will now try to win the European championship.
