New Delhi: Belgium and Slovakia will kick off their campaign for the 17th edition of Europe’s premier international football competition against each other tonight (June 17, Monday) in Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. They are certainly the more resilient members of group E, which also includes Romania and Ukraine. Their goal is to begin their trophy search with a victory.
The last ten years have been a rollercoaster of highs and lows for Belgium. Even though they were unable to win any trophies at the height of their success, they have remained a mainstay in the international football knockout stages. They may have discovered players who might start for the club in the near future.
The Belgian team has been playing excellently ever since they got eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage. After victories in friendlies over Montenegro and Luxembourg, Domenico Tedesco’s team has not lost since, and they are entering the European Championship as one of the contenders to make it into the final stages. In the two games, they scored five goals and gave up none. The players have performed admirably under the Italian coach Tedesco, who has had a positive effect on the team.
With this participation, Slovakia will appear in three straight European Championships. In their 2016 campaign, they managed to make it to the round of 16, however in Euro 2020, they lost in the group stage.
The Slovakia camp has entered a new phase of hope according to Francesco Calzona. Since taking over in November 2022, the Italian coach has achieved amazing success with the club. Slovakia will enter the competition with a lot of confidence despite their prior struggles. They have recently defeated Wales and San Marino 4-0. They have only dropped one of the seven games they have played before the campaign.
