New Delhi: West Indies fast bowling members Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph had a memorable outing against the USA as West Indies bundled them out at 128 in 19.5 overs in the crucial Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2024. Playing at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the USA desperately look for a win after getting derailed from their winning ways while the Windies aim for a bounce back after getting down in their previous fixture.
West Indies skipper Rovman Powell had opted to bowl first against the Aaron Jones-led side and the Caribbean bowlers made life terrible for the US batters who looked in dire need of getting into form. Andries Gous top-scored with 29 runs followed by Nitish Kumar’s 20 and Milind Kumar’s 19. The batters couldn’t read the line and length of the bowlers which Russell and Joseph took the benefit of and registered themselves for new World Cup records.
All-rounder Russell picked three wickets and with it has equalled T20 stalwart Dwayne Bravo for joint-most wickets for West Indies in T20 World Cups. Rusell sent back opener Steven Taylor on 2, all-rounder Shadley van Schalkwyk on 18, and Saurabh Netravalkar on 0. Meanwhile, Joseph bagged two wickets and now sits at level with Samuel Badree for joint-most wickets for West Indies in a T20 World Cup edition.

West Indies to chase 129
To get a first win in the Super 8 stage, West Indies require 129 runs which shouldn’t be a difficult task for the batting lineup boasted by the Caribbeans. After 10 overs, West Indies are at 110/1 and Shai Hope is leading the charge against the hapless USA bowlers, batting at 75*. Nicholas Pooran is helping him from the other end while Johnson Charles made a contribution of 15 runs.
Although Brandon King has been ruled out of the squad, capable hitters like Hope and Pooran can propel West Indies to the semis if they execute the strategies correctly in all three departments.
