New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered an emphatic victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in Kolkata on Saturday. During the game, an incident of a fan breaching the security to meet Virat Kohli gained spotlight. The excited fan touched his idol’s feet and even hugged him before being dragged out of the field.
The incident occurred during the 13th over of the run-chase when Kohli completed his fifty with a four. He soaked in all the applause, but a fan went a step ahead and decided to congratulate Kohli in person. He jumped off the fences of Eden Gardens and rushed in to fall at Kohli’s feet. The Delhi boy picked him u,p and the two shared a hug before being separated by the quick field security.
As the security team moved in to take the fan out, it looked as if Kohli was urging them to handle the situation gently and ensuring the well-being of his wild fan.

RCB emerges victorious
Riding on the back of half-centurions Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, RCB chased the target of 175 with ease to delight their fans in the opponents home. The atmosphere was nonetheless electric as RCB got an equal support, solely on the back of Kohli. RCB was led by new skipper Rajat Patidar, who met the expectations by adding his contribution of 34 runs off just 16 balls.
It was RCB’s first win against KKR since the 2022 IPL season. At first, it looked like KKR were set to give a target of above 200, but Krunal Pandya, who now plays for RCB, dismantled their batting line-up well within time. Phil Salt (56 off 31), who played for KKR last year, was on song, partnering with Kohli (59* off 36) as they added 75 runs during the powerplay.
Even the usually reliable Varun Chakravarthy proved expensive during the second innings as he leaked 43 runs in his four-over spell with only a wicket to his credit. The KKR bowlers were in tremendous pressure as the batting duo wasn’t deciding to stop the assault. Whle Salt hit nine fours and two sixes, Kohli’s innings was laced with four boundaries and three sixes.
Virat Kohli’s stardom has no limits as it was yet again at display at the Eden Gardens when he smacked a sublime half-century for RCB in a run-chase against KKR on Saturday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
