Gabba weather today: Rain, lightning delay Australia vs Pakistan 1st T20 in Brisbane

Brisbane: The threat of lightning and wet ground conditions has delayed the start of play at the Gabba in Brisbane. The toss for the opening match of the three-T20 series between Australia and Pakistan has not started yet due to lighting around the Gabba.

Both teams arrived for the warm-ups in sunny conditions at 4 pm local time (11.30 am IST), but soon after their arrival, dark and gloomy clouds descended over the iconic Brisbane Stadium and pitch covers were extended as a precaution.

With reports of lightning strikes near the stadium, security advised the players and officials to go off the field and requested the support staff and broadcasting teams to move away from the fence and take the cover of grandstands.

Not a single drop of rain fell before the scheduled toss time of 5:30 pm (local) (1.00 pm IST).

After the scheduled start got delayed, Gabba and the areas surrounding it witnessed some light rain and lightning  Few minutes later, the rain started picking up.

The weather conditions for Thursday, November 14 predicted a high chance of rain in the afternoon.

The inclement weather could wash out the first T20I at the Gabba, Brisbane. The cut-off time for a five-over match is 8.29 pm (local) (3.59 pm IST). If the match is abandoned, it will be counted as No result (NR) and the action will move to the second T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on November 16, Saturday.
