New Delhi: Team India captain Rohit Sharma has started preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19. Rohit last featured in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scoring 157 runs at an average of 52.33.
He led Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and announced his retirement after winning the trophy in Barbados on June 29. In the viral video, Rohit was seen working out in the gym ahead of the busy Test season. Rohit joined the viral Instagram trend where users showed their 99% and the other 1% side. In the video, Rohit was seen doing intense sessions in the gym and wrote in the caption of the video “Workouts – 99% of the time” and in the remaining 1% he showed his goofy side, where he was seen making fun of his friends.
Captain Rohit is the second-highest run-scorer from the Indian team in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. The 37-year-old has played nine Test matches and scored 700 runs at an average of 46.66, including three centuries and three fifties. Team India is currently in the first position of the WTC points table with six wins in nine matches while the Australian team is in second place with eight victories in 12 matches.
Big Test for Captain Rohit Sharma
After Bangladesh, Team India will face New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home in October followed by a five-match Test series against Australia, starting in late November. The BCCI has announced India’s squad for the Bangladesh series. Virat Kohli returned to the Test team after missing the home Test series against England earlier this year.
Jasprit Bumrah leads the fast bowling attack along with Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. Uncapped left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has also been added to the squad. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are the four spinners in the squad.
