‘Has ke baat nahi karna inse’: Virat Kohli’s advice to Siraj caught on stump mic

New Delhi: India’s star batter Virat Kohli showcased his animated and intense personality on the opening day of the fourth Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on December 26. The former Indian captain made headlines in the morning with his aggressive exchanges with 19-year-old Australian opener Sam Konstas.

Kohli and Konstas crossed each other near the pitch during a break between the over which led to a deliberate shoulder bump. Both players exchanged a few words before Usman Khawaja stepped in to defuse the tension. Kohli was also caught on stump-mic telling fast bowler Mohammed Siraj “Has ke baat nahi karna inse (Don’t laugh while talking with them) after Siraj exchanged a few words with Marnus Labuschagne.

Australia 311/6 at stumps on Day 1

Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja provided Australia a great start after skipper Pat Cummins opted to bat first in the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Both openers forged an 89-run partnership for the first wicket. Jadeja dismissed Konstas on 60 runs and provided India with their first breakthrough.

After that, Usman Khawaja scored his half-century but Bumrah got his wicket on 57 runs. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne stitched an 83-run partnership for the third wicket. At one point, the Aussies were looking to score more than 400 runs but Bumrah and Sundar took crucial wickets as Team India made a comeback in the match. The hosts lost three big wickets in quick succession in the last session of Day 1.

Sundar removed well-set Labuschagne on 72 runs while Bumrah also dismissed Travis Head (0) and Mitchell Marsh (4) cheaply. Akash Deep also took his first wicket of the match and removed Alex Carey on 31 runs. Steve Smith batted brilliantly and remained unbeaten on 68 runs at stumps on Day 1.
