Hyderabad: In yet another blow to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), one more MLA from the KCR-led party, Arekapudi Gandhi, joined the Congress party in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other leaders. He is a three-time MLA from Serilingampally constituency.
Along with the MLA, many corporators have also joined the party including Miyapur corporator Uppalapati Srikanth, Chanda Nagar corporator Manjula and Serilingampally corporator Ragam Nagender Yadav.
On Friday evening, Prakash Goud, a four-time MLA from Rajendranagar Assembly Constituency, defected to the Congress.
As per Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, at least six more will join the grand-old party on Saturday and the coming days.
In recent times, BRS MLAs Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Sanjay Kumar, Kale Yadaiah, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy joined the Congress party. This is the eighth joining of a BRS MLA in recent months. Prior to Lok Sabha elections, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkat Rao, Kadiyam Srihari also defected to Congress. In addition, six BRS MLCs also defected to Congress lately.
In 2023 Assembly elections, Congress won 64 seats in Telangana Legislative Assembly while BRS won 39 seats. The tally is skewed in the aftermath of a host of defections.
BRS leader KTR accused Congress of ‘double speak’, ‘hypocrisy’ in view of all the defections from his party and said that they would go to Supreme Court to litigate the issue. Congress on the other hand, accuses KCR of engineering defections when the BRS was in power for the last decade and that this is a way of getting back at BRS.
