Hyderabad: GHMC to deploy 534 teams to tackle monsoon flooding woes

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is deploying 534 emergency teams for the upcoming Monsoon season to address waterlogging issues, especially low-lying areas that are susceptible to flooding.

They include 157 mobile units, 30 DRF teams, 242 static units, 13 police department units, 29 teams designated for CRMP roads, 22 HMWSSB units, 41 electricity department units.

The civic body hopes that the collaboration across many departments may lead to a more efficient response to monsoon related crises.

GHMC officials said in a press release, “There are over 120 water stagnation points across the city and a permanent solution has been made to reduce the water gradually. 32 waterlogging points have been identified to completely remove them by next monsoon.”

GHMC has urged the public to not litter in nalas and requested tech companies to adjust schedules so that traffic congestion does not occur. Officials also request citizens to not open manhole lids.

The civic body has also issued helpline numbers for assistance from the DRF teams during rainfall. The numbers are: 040-21111111 or 9000113667.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is likely to occur at many places in the state over the next few days, as per weather department. Thunderstorms and rain, gusty winds are expected in Hyderabad as well.
