‘I’m sweet with it’: Head insists all is well with Siraj after Adelaide altercation

New Delhi: Travis Head said he and Mohammed Siraj have called truce after a heated altercation in the day-night Test at Adelaide that Australia won by 10 wickets against India on Sunday.

Head smashed Indian bowlers all over the Adelaide Oval on way to a match-turning 140 runs off 141 balls. On his home ground, the left hander pulverised 17 boundaries and four sixes as his blistering knock took the game away from India.

He was dismissed by Siraj, clean bowled following which he gave a send-off to the batter. The gesture made Head angry and engaged in a verbal duel before walking off to a standing ovation.

Head later said he has complemented Siraj for dismissing him with a good delivery but Siraj refuted this, claiming that the destructive Aussie batter lied as he was abusive.

The two players were seen talking to each other on Sunday as Siraj came into bat. Head was fielding at shortleg as cameras caught them speaking over the episode.

“Sweet with it. He came out and just said [it was] a little bit of misunderstanding … I think we’ll move on. We’ve had a great week, so let’s not let it ruin it,” Head said after being named player of the match in the 10-wicket win on his home ground.

“It was fine. He said, ‘Why’d you swear?’ I sort of said, ‘Look, I didn’t at first … [but] I definitely swore at you the second time round,’” Head told ABC Sport.

‘We move on’

Head said they laughed off the matter, adding that it arose from a misunderstanding, which was addressed. He added that both have agreed to bury the hatchet and move on as the third Test begins in Brisbane on December 14.

“I probably could have laughed it off and walked off and enjoyed myself. He just said it was a misunderstanding as well, and there was no issues for me. We move on. I’m sweet. It is what it is,” Head said.

The five-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently tied at 1-1.
