New Delhi: India seamer Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of becoming the quickest pacer to reach the landmark of 100 wickets in men’s T20I cricket and could achieve it in India’s third T20I against England in Rajkot on Tuesday.
The left-arm seamer recently overtook Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s leading wicket taker in T20Is and now has the chance to overtake Pakistan quick Haris Rauf to be the fastest in the overall list of pacers with 100 T20I wickets.
Pakistan right armer Rauf remains the fastest pacer to 100 T20I wickets in 71 matches, while Arshdeep has 98 dismissals in 62 games. The 25-year-old Arshdeep has claimed 98 wickets at an economy rate of 8.27 that includes two four-wicket hauls.
At the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Tuesday, Arshdeep could become the pacer also has the chance to become the fourth quicest to 100 wickets among male cricketers.
With two wickets in the first match of the five-game series in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Arshdeep had first equalled and then gone past Chahal. He claimed the wicket of Phil Salt in his first over to touch Chahal’s mark and then sent back Ben Duckett to the pavilion to surpass the leg-spinner.
Arshdeep is set to become the first male cricketer to reach the mark. Deepti Sharma has already reached it in women’s T20Is.
He has been named ICC’s men’s T20I player of the year for 2024 after helping India won the T20 World Cup.

Star Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan remains the quickest to 100 T20I wickets, reaching the landmark in 53 matches. The premuim leg-spinner completed a century of wickets in October 2021 against Pakistan.
Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane took 54 games to reach the mark, against Bangladesh in June 2024, followed by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga (63 matches, against Afghanistan in February 2024).
