India at Paris Olympics on Day 4: Manu-Sarabjot bag bronze, Chirag-Satwik and Bhajan record wins

New Delhi: India enjoyed another eventful day at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Tuesday, July 30 as several athletes did well in their respective sporting disciplines. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won India’s second medal at the Games after bagging a historic bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. Manu and Sarabjot became the first Indian pair to win a team gold for India in shooting at the Olympics.

Manu won her second gold at the Paris Olympics having already won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event last week to open India’s medal tally at the Games. She etched her name in history books by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. She also became the first Indian to win two medals in a single edition of the Games post-independence.

Manu and Sarabjot, who finished third in the qualification round, defeated the Korean pair of Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho 16-10 in the bronze medal match to finish third on the podium and win India’s second medal at the Games. The pair gave India a cracking start at the Games on Day 4 before the likes of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Bhajan Kaur and the Indian hockey team also registered important victories.

Indian hockey team beat Ireland 2-0, enter quarters

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh led from the front and scored two goals to help the Indian men’s hockey team defeat Ireland 2-0 in their pool B match at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. India continued their unbeaten run in the tournament with the win. Later in the day, Argentina’s 2-0 win against New Zealand helped India qualify for the quarter-finals in men’s hockey.

Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy storm into quarter-finals

Indian badminton men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their stellar run at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Tuesday. Chirag-Sawtik defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian 21-13, 21-13 in straight games to top their group and enter the quarter-finals of men’s doubles. One of the strongest medal contenders for India in badminton, Chirag-Satwik will hope to continue their fabulous run in the knockout stages.

Bhajan Kaur enters Round of 16 in women’s recurve archery

Indian archer Bhajan Kaur produced an impressive display on Day 4 of the Paris Games to make it to the Round of 16 in women’s individual recurve archery. She defeated Indonesia’s Syifa Nurafifah Kamal and Wioleta Myszor of Poland in her first two rounds to make it to the pre-quarters. However, her compatriot Ankita Bhakat lost against Myszor 4-6 to in the opening round to bow out of the competition.

Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto lose

Women’s doubles badminton pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto suffered their third defeat in a row as they lost 15-21,10-21 against Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu to crash out from the Paris Olympics 2024.

Amit Panghal and Jaismine Lamboria lose in boxing

Indian boxers endured a dismal day at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. Amit Panghal lost his opening bout against Patrick Chinyemba of Zambia to exit from the competition. The Zambian boxer beat Panghal 4-1 in the men’s 51kg round of 16 match.

Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio defeated India’s Jasmine Lamboria comprehensively in the women’s 57kg round of 32 match to send her crashing from the Paris Olympics 2024.
