India cricket commemorates 41 years of 1983 ODI World Cup triumph

New Delhi: On June 25, 1983, Team India created history by winning their maiden World Cup trophy at the Lord’s. The Kapil Dev-led side overpowered the mighty West Indies in the final clash to earn the tag of World champions. As India celebrates the 41st anniversary of the historic feat, many former cricketers, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah commemorated the win.

Apart from Shah, former cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad also took to his social media account X to celebrate the victory under of the India cricket team, which shed the tag of minnows to become the champions. It was a thrilling low-scoring encounter which had the eyes of the entire world and unexpected champions India tuned the tables against the two-time world champions.

Shah lauds defining moment

Meanwhile, Shah took to his social media account X and lauded that defining moment of Indian cricket saying that it continues to inspire all.

Kirti Azad, who was part of the world cup-winning side also lauded the efforts and celebrated the momentous triumph with a heartfelt message.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also took to social media calling it a historic moment in Indian cricket.

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first in the high-voltage dram at the iconic Lord’s. The Indian team could not put up the best of the shows as they bundled of just a score of 183 runs. It was a momentous task to defend a score of 183 in the final clash and that too against the batting-heavy side but India did their best to keep the Windies run-flow in check. Windies were bowled out for 140 runs and India bagged the the historic title.
