New Delhi: Sangram Singh is the new Indian MMA sensation as he is making his debut against arch-rival Pakistani Ali Raza Nasir in the 93 kg category at the Gama International Fighting Championship at the European University. He is 39 years of age and will become the oldest Indian fighter to make his debut in MMA.
Sangram is the gold medalist in the Commonwealth heavyweight wrestling championship and after his success in wrestling, he decided to change his game to MMA and wanted to make a strong case in Indian MMA.
Sangram has gained over 2-3 kg for his upcoming debut fight against Ali Raza. He also wants to enjoy his debut MMA fight and also a bit nervous as he sees this is an exciting opportunity that will take MMA in India to a new height.
Representing my country on such a prestigious platform is a top priority for me. If you don’t view your nation while participating in global events, something is lacking. I’m honored to be the first Indian male wrestler in this position, and I aim to make my nation proud.” Sangram said.
There are many other top notable fighters in the card instead of Sangram and Ali Raza’s fight. Fighters from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Pakistan.
I am nervous and I want my debut to be a memorable match. I am not so obsessed about winning rather than hoping to earn the respect of my peers and fans,” he added.
Sangram also wanted to motivate the youth through his debut fight as he majorly embodies fitness and discipline among youth and wants every young child to make their country proud on the global stage.
