New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad seamer Harshal Patel became the second fastest and 13th bowler to claim 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League. The right-armer dismissed Lucknow Super Giants opener Aiden Markram to reach the milestone in an IPL 2025 game on Monday.
Markram made 61 runs off 38 balls with the help of four boundaries and four sixes until he was foxed by a slow, dipping yorker in the 16th over.
Patel reached 150 wickets in 117 matches (114 innings) to be placed behind former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga (105) in taking the least number of matches to reach the landmark.
He is the quickest Indian bowler to reach the milestone. The right-arm pacer has developed a reptation for being a death-overs specialist and ability to bowl deceptive slower deliveries.
Patel, however, has taken fewest balls to claim 150 dismissals in the tournament. He has taken 2381 deliveries for 150 wickets, to be placed ahead of Malinga (2444), Yuzvendra Chahal (2543), Dwayne Bravo (2656) and Jasprit Bumrah (2832).
Patel has registered four four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul during his IPL career since making his debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2012. Hyderabad bought him for Rs 8 crore in the mega auction for IPL 2025.
Patel was the winner of the Purple Cap last year, becoming only the second Indian after Bhuvneshwar Kumar to be the highest wicket taker multiple editions of the IPL.
Harshal had claimed 32 wickets in 2021, to equal Dwayne Bravo’s mark most wickets in a single edition of the tournament.
Pant dismissed cheaply again
LSG skipper Rishabh Pant’s woes with the bat continued as he was dismissed cheaply for the 12th straight match. The left hander came into bat in the 1th over whrn LSG were comfortably placed 115/1.
But after scoring seven runs off six balls he went back to the pavilion after being caught and bowled by Eshan Malinga.
LSG bought Pant for a record Rs 27 crore at the mega auction before IPL 2025, making him the most expensive player in the competition’s history.
But since being appointed the skipper, the keeper-batter has only managed to score 135 runs in 13 matches.
