New Delhi: Punjab Kings have suffered a major setback ahead of their match against Chennai Super Kings. Captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed that their star overseas player, Glenn Maxwell, will miss the game due to a fractured finger he sustained during practice.
Although Maxwell has struggled in this season’s IPL, scoring only 48 runs in 7 matches with a low average of 8, he is still a match-winner who can turn the match on its head on his day. His absence is a big concern for Punjab Kings, and his availability for the remaining matches remains uncertain.
Earlier, Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl at the Chepauk in Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition.
Maxwell replaced by Suryansh Shedge
Kings have replaced injured Glenn Maxwell with Suryansh Shedge, while CSK remained unchanged. Staring at elimination, the bottom-placed CSK have lost their last four matches at home.
Meanwhile, Punjab are currently fifth on the points table with 11 points, having won 5 out of their 9 matches and lost just 3. A win today could catapult them to second place, boosting their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
On the other hand, it’s a do-or-die game for CSK. Having lost 7 out of their 9 matches, the five-time champions are on the verge of elimination. Another loss today will end their journey in the tournament.
