IPL 2025: Ravindra Jadeja asked to change his bat after failing the gauge test in CSK vs SRH match

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the latest batter to fail the gauge test in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition. In match number 43 of the IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Sunrisers made a couple of changes to their playing XI with Mohammad Shami returning to the lineup and Kamindu Mendis replacing Ehsan Malinga. The named impact substitutes for SRH included Travis Head, Abhinav Manohar, Sachin Baby, Rahul Chahar, and Wiaan Mulder. Travis Head is expected to come out as an impact player during the run chase.

On the other side, Chennai Super Kings, a team usually known for sticking to a settled combination, have been experimenting with their squad this season. At the toss, captain MS Dhoni announced three changes: Dewald Brevis, making his debut for the Super Kings, came in for Rachin Ravindra; Deepak Hooda replaced Vijay Shankar; and Sam Curran returned to the side in place of Jamie Overton.

Batting first, CSK once again faced early trouble, losing three wickets inside the powerplay. Despite a fighting cameo from 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who scored 30 off just 19 balls, the top-order struggles continued.

A notable incident took place when Ravindra Jadeja, who has consistently batted at number four this season after being retained for a whopping 18 crores ahead of the mega auction, was asked to change his bat before walking out to bat. The umpires conducted a gauge test, and Jadeja’s bat failed to pass.

The gauge is a triangular tool used to ensure the bat’s dimensions fall within legal limits – a maximum width of 4.33 inches, depth of 2.68 inches, edge thickness of 1.61 inches, and a curvature not exceeding 0.20 inches. Since Jadeja’s bat was found to be oversized, he had to switch to a different one. Similar incidents have occurred in the past with players like Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje.

Later on in the innings, Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad also failed the gauge test and was asked to change his bat.

Both CSK and SRH are currently struggling in the tournament, with only 2 wins each from 8 games. With just 6 matches left, both teams are in a must-win situation. A loss in this match could very well end their hopes of making it to the playoffs.

IPL 2025: Ravindra Jadeja’s bat failed the IPL 2025 gauge test, forcing a mid-innings change during CSK’s match against SRH. This incident, mirroring similar occurrences with other players, highlights the importance of bat regulations.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
