New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill looked in sublime touch on Sunday as they completed a record run chase against Delhi Capitals (DC) with 10 wickets to spare, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, to become first playoffs-qualified team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The duo partnered for 205* runs for the opening wicket and only returned to the pavilion after chasing down the 200-run target, making the stand invincible.

This was not the first time that the GT duo showcased its batting prowess, but Sunday night stood out for them. The two batters scripted history with their unbeaten 205-run partnership as GT became the first team to chase down a 200-run target without losing a wicket in the IPL. Not only this, they went on to claim several other records as well, while they took the DC bowlers to the cleaners in their own backyard.

Sudharsan slammed his second IPL ton, scoring 108* runs off 61 balls and laced with 12 fours and six sixes, while Gill played the perfect second-fiddle with a sublime knock of 93* runs off 53 balls. The two players continued their purple patch in the tournament as they propelled GT over the line with remarkable ease, also making the 205-run effort the second-highest opening stand of the tournament.

It is noteworthy that the record of the highest run-stand in the IPL is jointly held by the duo as well, alongside KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. The two pairs recorded 210 runs to share the elite feat.

In the current scenario, the two batters have amassed the most runs as an Indian pair in an IPL season, surpassing the 744-run record by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, which they established for DC in 2021.

This was also the first-ever 10-wicket victory for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, and the 205* runs partnership is also the highest to get a 10-wicket win in an IPL game.

DC at risk of elimination

DC, looking for revenge in the return leg clash, lost for the second time against GT and helped the top-placed teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), achieve playoffs qualification as well. The first leg clash of the season between the two teams also yielded a similar kind of result as GT chased down 204 runs with seven wickets in hand, making it their highest successful run-chase, and also a similar one against DC.
