ISL to kick-off with Mohun Bagan vs Mumbai City clash on Sept 13

New Delhi: The 2024-25 Indian Super League will begin through a clash between its Shield champion Mohun Bagan and Cup winner Mumbai City on September 13 in Kolkata.

Last season Mohun Bagan defeated Mumbai to win their maiden ISL Shield trophy. Mumbai got revenge with a win over Bagan to claim the ISL Cup, to deny the Kolkata giants a double.

The ISL organisers announced fixture for the first 84 matches of the league, till the end of the year.

Hyderabad FC, the team that had to pull out of Durand Cup as they were unable to assemble a squad due to multiple transfer bans and acute financial strife were included in the schedule subject to their fulfillment of AIFF’s licensing criteria.

They are scheduled to begin their campaign with an away clash at Bengaluru FC on September 19. After from the opening match, Chennaiyin FC travel to Odisha FC while and Bengaluru FC host East Bengal FC in the first double-header of the season the next day. Kerala Blasters host Punjab FC on September 15 at Kochi.

Enter Mohammedan

Mohammedan Sporting gained promotion to ISL after becoming I-League champion. They will begin their campaign at their home ground of Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata against NorthEast United on September 16.

Their entry makes the ISL a 13-team tournament with marks the presence of three century-old Kolkata clubs including Mohun Bagan, East Bengal in the top tier of Indian football for the first time since 2013-14.

It also ensured six Kolkata derbies in the ISL throughout the season with the first two derby matches of the season slated to be in October when Mohun Bagan taken on Mohammedan on October 5 followed by East Bengal’s clash against Mohun Bagan on October 19.
