Juventus cruise past Cagliari with 4-0 win to reach Coppa Italia quarter-finals

New Delhi: The defending champions Juventus eased past to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup with a 4-0 triumph over Cagliari at home turf. Although the Sardinians were quick off the mark, the hosts gradually adapted before asserting their lead with Dusan Vlahovic’s striking goal just before the half time.

Vlahovic was the focus of The Old Lady supporters’ anger after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Venezia but the 24-year-old soaked up the applause this time as he scored just before the half time. Summer signing Teun Koopmeiners then doubled Juventus’ lead early in the second half, curling a free-kick into the top-left corner just eight minutes after the restart. Despite Cagliari making several substitutions in an attempt to change the game, Juventus maintained their dominance.

Despite two of Dusan Vlahovic’s goals being ruled out for offside, Juventus extended their dominance in the 80th minute. Francisco Conceicao showcased brilliant skill cutting back from the right side of the box to set up a perfectly executed goal, adding to the hosts’ commanding lead.

In the dying minutes substitute Nicolas Gonzalez delivered the finishing touch with a dazzling solo effort. Weaving his way through the Cagliari defense he unleashed a superb strike sealing a comprehensive 4-0 victory and securing Juventus’ place in the Italian Cup quarter-finals.
