What to do on Jyeshtha Amavasya?
In the early morning hours of Amavasya, it is customary to wake up and take a holy bath, preferably in the Ganges River. Devotees offer water (Arghya) to the Sun God after bathing. This day is dedicated to performing Tarpan (offerings to ancestors) for their peace of mind.
A fast is also observed by many to honour their ancestors.
