Kerala : Youth congress slam leadership over ‘black magic’, says few live in fool’s paradise

Kannur: A week after the controversy erupted over the visuals of copper plates and figurines related to black magic that were recovered from Congress state president K Sudhakaran’s house in Kannur, a large section of the partymen, mainly from the Youth Congress are unhappy and have openly denounced the top party leadership. A leader close to Sudhakaran told News9 that they suspect one of his former personal staff members behind the act.

“It was the work of a former personal staff that led to the entire controversy. The video was shot on the former personal staffer’s mobile phone which led us to suspect that it’s his handiwork. He was involved in stealing huge amounts of money from Sudhakaran which prompted him to sack him more than two-years ago he said on conditions of anonymity. However, did not reveal more details.

In the video that surfaced on July 3rd that was recorded a year ago, a labourer could be seen digging out a shell-like substance where he is seen taking out close to two dozen copper plates with several figurines with inscriptions on them.

In the video, Sudhakaran can be heard telling Rajmohan Unnithan, the Kasaragod MP and senior Congress leader that it’s surprising that he is still alive and that he doubts whether it was due to the black magic that he was feeling weak in the legs, losing balance while walking and having bouts of anxiety attacks.

The question that many are asking is why is a one-and-half-year-old video that is released now creating an uproar within the party.

Youth Congress state vice-president Abin Varkey said that the party would not survive if it chooses black magic over hard work. Abin stated that those who follow black magic are living in fool’s paradise.

Abin Varkey also reminded that Congress is the party of Nehru who enriched Constitution through scientific temper. “Everyone should remember that we are living in 2024. People are planning to go to Mars using artificial intelligence. Hence, we request the party members with such ideas to start working for party,” said Abin.

The criticism is not just from the Youth Congress leaders including Abin Varkey, but the opposition CPI(M) and the BJP lashing out at the Congress party stating that the party leaders through such videos are proving that the grand old party is against scientific temperament and is still supporting superstitions.

“The incidents are shameful and that this shows that the Congress party leaders are still supporting superstitions and black magic. CPI(M) is a party which has always supported scientific temperament and neither me nor any of our leaders will subscribe to black magic or any such superstitions as these absolutely condemnable and one cannot accept such concepts in a civilized society”, said CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan Master to the media at the AKG centre.

What makes it even more intriguing is the fact that it is not the first time a KPCC president has found objects related to black magic in his home. During V M Sudheeran’s tenure as Congress state president in 2018, a similar incident of tracing black magic objects was reported from his house at Gowreesapattom in Thiruvananthapuram.

Sudhakaran when contacted by media person has confirmed about the incident, however refrained to reveal on the motives and the person behind the video.
