Lacklustre India fail Kiwi Test, suffer humiliation at home in whites after 12 years

New Delhi: After 4331 days, India lost a Test series at their den. In what can undoubtedly be called as the biggest humiliation they have had at home since over a decade, the India cricket team suffered an embarrassing loss against New Zealand by 113 runs in the second Test at Pune, losing the three-game series 0-2. A target of 359 runs with almost three days in hand, India could only amass 245 in their second innings, succumbing inside three days at the MCA stadium.

This is the first-time ever New Zealand have defeated India in a Test series in their own den, where they have been more than dominant since last 10 years. Chasing an almost achievable target, India batters could not resist the Kiwi bowlers, not playing the pitch perfect Test match cricket.

India batters collapse miserably

Chasing 359 runs to win, India started off well in their proceedings with youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 77 runs, after India lost the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma early on. But after Jaiswal’s departure, none of the batters could really put up a good show and show some courage in front of the Black Caps apart from Ravindra Jadeja, who pitched in again with a classic knock of 42.

This marked India’s first home Test series defeat since the 1-2 reversal against Alastair Cook-led England in the 2012-13 season. New Zealand, having won the opening match by 8 wickets, celebrated their first-ever series victory in India since touring here in 1955-56 under Harry Cave. For the visitors, left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner (6/104) played an instrumental role in India’s downfall. The third and the final Test match of the series will be played from November 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India vs New Zealand: Indian team went down against the Kiwis in the second Test match in Pune, which brought an end to their 18-series winning streak at home. India had last lost a Test series at home 12 years back in 2012.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
