New Delhi: LeBron James scripted history in an NBA game on Thursday night after he became the oldest player to score 40 points, notching up a season-high of 42 in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120-112 win over the Golden State Warriors. James, 40, surpassed the record previously held by Michael Jordon as the only other player in the history of NBA to score 40 post his 40th birthday.
The veteran player was remarkable throughout the night against the Warriors. James scored 18 points in the second quarter, which was highlighted by three 3-pointers in 38 seconds, getting a standing ovation from the Lakes crowd present at the scene. He then stepped up down the stretch when the Lakers’ 26-point lead lessened to five in quarter four.

10 triple-doubles for James this season
Golden State were only trailing by six when James put his sixth 3-pointer of the night with just over a minute to play and then followed it with a half-court assist to Hachimura for a dunk that sealed the win for them with roughly 50 seconds still left. The NBA legend has 10 triple-doubles this season, each one making him the second-oldest player to achieve this feat.
James has become the second-oldest player in the history of NBA to record a triple-double and he is still almost 90 days young to break the record set by Karl Malone back in 2003. After the elusive record, James said that: ‘I’m old, that’s my take,’ James said when asked about his latest achievement. ‘I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s what I think.’
Jordon achieved it for the Washington Wizards just three days after turning 40 in February 2003. James, though, is roughly 40 days older from his 40th birthday which was in December 2004.
