New Delhi: Bangladesh cricketer Litton Das has said that he and his family is safe amid rumours of his house getting burnt down during the protests in the country. Amid the ongoing socio-political turmoil, the situation in Bangladesh is grim in recent weeks and the city is experiencing nothing else than violence.
Das quashes rumours
Bangladesh player Das took to his social media site Facebook and addressed the circulating news regarding an alleged attack on his house. Das, in his message posted in Bangla, clarified that such reports, suggesting an assault on him and his family, were entirely baseless and that no such incident had occurred.
The Bangladesh player also spoke about the foundational secular nature of his country, saying that the main objective should be for the country to move forward collectively and try for progress in all the aspects of life. He further said that Bangladesh should come out of this barbarity and move towards building a progressive nation. Das expressed hope that the nation would remain united and ultimately rid itself of all forms of violence, reinforcing the importance of solidarity and peace for the country’s advancement.
Meanwhile, the harsh effects of the protests on the sport, many of the relatives, friends, and acquaintances of the Bangladeshi cricketers have been directly affected by the massive student demonstrations engulfing the country. Due to these protests, significant discussions have been held within the apex cricketing body – the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its representatives regarding the of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The big-ticket event is scheduled to be held in the country in October and keeping in view the recent scenario, there are now deliberations on whether the tournament should be relocated.
