New Delhi: Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf League is all set for a glitzy debut in India with as many as 15 stars and nine winners from the Asian Tour’s 2024 season teeing up at the event beginning in Gurugram on January 30. A star-studded line-up will come together at the USD 2 million International Series India, which is being touted as one of the most sought-after events in the country.

The list of the participants, featuring the who’s who from the golfing world, is headed by reigning major winner and American golfer Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau had a an incredible year on the course with as many as top-six finishes in three out of total four majors, which included a victory at the US Open as well. Six out of top 20 from 2024’s LIV Golf League will be in the field in India as it becomes the latest entrant to host the International Series.

India’s Anirban Lahiri part of the elite line-up

Indian golfer Anirban Lahri is part of the starry list of golfers along with Paul Casey, Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz of Torque GC, who will be lined up alongside skipper Joaquin Niemann and compatriot Abraham Ancer (12) of Fireballs GC. Other names which are part of the confirmed list are Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz, while Harold Varner III of 4Aces GC will also bring his lively talent to the DLF Golf and Country Club.

As far as the Indian participants are concerned, eight out of the total ten professionals have won on the Asian Tour. The names, apart from Lahiri are Gaganjeet Bhullar, Jeev Milkha Singh, SSP Chawrasia, Sharma, Rashid Khan, Rahil Gangjee and Ajeetesh Sandh. Few of the other confirmed Indian players are Yuvraj Sandhu and Karandeep Kochhar while Shiv Kapur, who has won the Asian Tour four times, is the first reserve.

Lahiri (T-5 at the 2015 PGA), Sharma (T-8 at the 2023 Open) and Jeev Milkha (T-9 at the 2008 PGA) are interestingly the only Indians to have finished in the top-10 in a major. An eminent addition to the field is 15-year-old Kartik Singh, who is the highest-ranked Indian amateur.
