New Delhi: England and Manchester City defender Kyle Walker reveals the tough love of his father that helped in shaping his career and winning mentality. The number 2 has enjoyed a glittering career at Manchester City winning six Premier League titles and two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, and the Champions League. Walker is regarded as one of the best right – backs in the world.

While speaking on the “You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker” podcast, the 34-year-old discussed how his father Michael significantly shaped his career with his tough love and guidance. Kyle Walker revealed that he never enjoyed going to football with his father who has himself played for Sheffield United and Tottenham and also had a loan spell at QPR, Aston Villa and Northampton. Reflecting on the early days of his career Kylie Walker said,  “No matter if I played good or I played bad, I’d get in the car and I’d be reduced to tears. He’d say I wouldn’t have done this right, I wouldn’t have done that right. He didn’t do it because he wanted to hurt me. He did it because he cared.”

Talking about his mother, he mentioned that his mother Tracey always provided the caring support he needed, and it took him a long time to win over his dad. Walker revealed sometimes it was very tough to get in the car but my mum used to tell my dad leave him he will do well.

Only as he grew older and spent a few years at City did his father acknowledge “you know, he actually can play football.” When asked about his approach to parenting his own children, Walker admitted that he does not criticize them as his father did but occasionally taps into his father’s parenting style.

Kyle Walker added, “I still feel that some of the things in life – where he’s taught me to be a winner – I’m trying to embed that into the boys.” “With my kids now, I don’t let them win. If I keep letting them win, when they lose, it’s going to be traumatic for them. “We’ll play a little game in the garden or something and I’ll give it my all because I feel that it’s going to install that into them.”

Through a combination of his father’s tough love and mother’s unwavering support the English man has developed a name for himself in the world of football. Walker is a player who thrives in pressure and is driven by the unwavering desire to win.
