New Delhi: Ace shooter Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete after independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. India won a total of six medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Manu winning two out of them.
She won a bronze in women’s individual 10m air pistol and also in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. She was also chosen as India’s flag-bearer along with PR Sreejesh at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony. Manu also ended India’s 12-year-long wait for an Olympic medal in shooting.
Before the closing ceremony, Manu and her mother met with ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who won the silver medal. Their video went viral on social media and rumours started on social media.

Manu played down all the rumours and said that she and Neeraj meeting with each other since 2018 on the sidelines of the events and don’t have much interaction otherwise. She also said that there is no truth to the rumours.
“I don’t know much about it. I was not there when this happened. But since 2018 we have been meeting on the sidelines of events. We don’t have that much interaction otherwise. During events, we talk a little. But there is no truth to the rumours that are going around” Manu Bhaker told News18.
Neeraj won the silver medal in men’s javelin at the Paris Games. Neeraj could not defend his Olympic gold medal, but he came up with his second-best throw of 89.45m to finish second behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem.
‘She is still very young’: Manu’s father Ram Kishan
Manu’s father also broke the silence on the rumours and said that his daughter,22, is still very young and not even of marriageable age.
“Manu is still very young. She is not even of marriageable age. Not even thinking about it right now. Manu’s mother considers Neeraj like her son” Manu’s father Ram Kishan told Dainik Bhaskar.
